IWC Schaffhausen celebrated 50 years of the Ingenieur at Someone’s House in Dubai with a private evening centered on rare watches and design history.
IWC Schaffhausen recently introduced a unique chapter of the Ingenieur story at Someone’s House in Dubai. As part of IWC’s international commemoration of the collection’s 50th anniversary, the evening provided guests with a close-up experience of exceptional watches connected to one of the brand’s most significant designs.
Someone’s House hosted the Dubai gathering as a private VIP event. Guests spent the evening discovering watches, hearing the Ingenieur story, and seeing how a design first introduced in 1976 still feels relevant five decades later.
IWC’s Ingenieur anniversary has been celebrated internationally, and Dubai joined that calendar through a private event at Someone’s House.
That format complemented the collection extremely well. Guests could spend time with the watches instead of seeing them for a few seconds inside a large public setting. Conversations could continue naturally around the House, while the watches remained central to the evening.
Watch events benefit from that kind of proximity. Fine details matter. Finishing matters. Proportions matter. Guests want to see the dial up close and understand why a reference holds historical importance.
IWC was given a residential setting by Someone’s House, making that style of interaction feel authentic.
IWC introduced the Ingenieur SL Reference 1832 in 1976. Gérald Genta created the watch during a decade that changed the direction of Swiss sports watches.
Integrated bracelets and steel cases were beginning to form a new category within Swiss watchmaking. Genta was one of the central names in that period.
Reference 1832 had a strong visual identity. Its integrated bracelet and distinctive case gave it a character that collectors would understand far better years later.
Commercial recognition took time.
Only 598 examples were produced between 1976 and 1983. Collector interest grew in later decades, and the Ingenieur SL eventually became one of IWC’s most desired historical references.
That history gave the Dubai evening real substance. Guests were celebrating a watch whose importance grew gradually through design appreciation and collector interest.
The modern Ingenieur arrived in 2023 and returned directly to ideas found in Genta’s Reference 1832.
Five screws secure the bezel. The dial uses a grid pattern. The bracelet integrates closely with the case.
IWC also updated the ergonomics and wearability to better suit the current audience.
The result connects 1976 and today in a very direct way.
Gérald Genta’s daughter, Alexia Genta, has spoken about seeing her father’s work continue to influence people fifty years later. Her comments also point to the importance of IWC continuing its artistic heritage through the current Ingenieur collection.
That connection between an original designer and a living collection gave the anniversary real meaning.
IWC created two anniversary models for the Ingenieur SL’s 50th anniversary.
The Ingenieur Automatic 40 50th Anniversary carries reference IW328910. The Ingenieur Automatic 35 50th Anniversary carries reference IW324909.
Both editions are limited to 1,150 pieces.
Their brushed silver-plated dials take inspiration from a rare Ingenieur SL variation from the 1970s. Rhodium-plated hands and metal hour markers complete the dial treatment. Super-LumiNova appears on the relevant elements for low-light readability.
One small detail speaks directly to the anniversary.
The usual lightning bolt below the Ingenieur name has been replaced by the number 50.
It is a restrained reference to the anniversary and fits the watch’s history well.
Both watches use stainless-steel cases and bracelets.
The 40-millimeter model uses IWC’s 32111 caliber with a 120-hour power reserve. A soft-iron inner case protects the movement from magnetic fields and connects the new model to technical ideas associated with earlier Ingenieur watches.
The 35-millimeter edition uses IWC Caliber 47110 and a sapphire case back that lets the owner see the movement.
Different finishing treatments also separate the two sizes. The 40-millimeter bracelet uses a satin finish, while the 35-millimeter model adds polished middle links.
Both watches retain the five-screw bezel that has become closely connected with the current Ingenieur identity.
IWC has expanded the modern Ingenieur collection since its return in 2023.
Different case sizes now sit within the line. Materials include stainless steel and
titanium. Gold and ceramic versions have also joined the family.
Complications have expanded, too.
The collection now includes a perpetual calendar and a tourbillon.
That development gives the 50th anniversary added context. IWC is celebrating the past while continuing to build the Ingenieur as an active collection for current clients and collectors.
Watch collectors appreciate privacy.
They want enough time to look at a piece and ask questions. Brand representatives also benefit from a setting where conversations can continue beyond a formal presentation.
Someone’s House works naturally for that kind of event.
The House feels residential and personal. Guests can move around it comfortably while the event remains private. Brand presentations and product displays can live comfortably inside the same setting.
For IWC, the venue gave the Dubai anniversary event a quieter and more intimate character.
The watches carried the story.
The House gave people time to hear it.
IWC Schaffhausen joining the list of brands that have hosted private events at Someone’s House means a great deal to us.
